The Hellenic Museum and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, in collaboration with the Epigraphic Museum and Athens University was inaugurated on 19 March, 2009.
The launch was held in the beautiful gardens of the Hellenic Museum and was officiated by Vicki Yianoulatos, CEO in the presence of 450 of Melbourne's business and academic community. Speakers included: Lynne Kosky, Minister for the Arts; Ted Baillieu, Leader of the Opposition; Theodoros Dravillas, General Secretary of the Hellenic Ministry for Culture; Prof. George Babiniotis, President of the Hellenic Foundation; and, Harry Stamoulis, Chairman of the Hellenic Museum and the Nafsika Stamoulis Foundation.
The launch was designed to offer guests the opportunity to become acquainted with the constitution and functioning of the first and most genuine democracy in the world – the Athenian democracy – through documents recorded on the durable material of stone.
