TOUR FAQs

How many people can be accommodated at one time?


Groups of 20 can be accommodated at any one time. For school groups, students must always be supervised by at least two teachers/adults. For our Saturday tours, the maximum is 15 people per tour.




How do I book a tour or visit for a school/community/general group?


Bookings are required for all groups visiting the Museum. To arrange a booking, please call us on (03) 8615 9016 or email us at: info@hellenic.org.au




Do I need to book if I am coming in with a group just to visit?


Group visits without any tours are very welcome, but we ask those who will be coming to visit with a group of 8 or more to please let us know in advance where possible.




What do I need to include when making a booking?


When contacting us about booking a tour or visit, please be ready to include a name, contact number and email, a preferred date and time, the name of your school/community group/club, the number of individuals for the tour or visit and an area of interest if applicable.




What is the difference between weekday tours and Saturday tours?


The tours available to be booked on weekdays (“weekday tours” - Monday to Friday) are limited to groups of 8-20 and thus ideal for school groups, community groups and clubs. Saturday tours are designed to be more accessible for the general public who are interested in taking a guided tour with us but do not have a group of 8 individuals in order to book a tour for a weekday.




My group includes adults/children with special needs. Can the museum accommodate them?


Yes, the Museum welcomes adults and children of all abilities. When contacting us about a tour or visit booking, please let us know what accommodations we can provide in order to meet your needs.




Can we pay upon arrival or do we need to pay in advance?


Payment is expected upon arrival for self-guided visits. Payment can be invoiced for guided visits (except for Saturday tours). The following admission fees apply per person: Self-guided $5 Concession / $10 Non-Concession (both fees include exhibition entry) Tour-guided $10 Concession / $15 Non-Concession (both fees include exhibition entry) Teachers and carers for both guided and self-guided tours have FREE entry.




What sort of programs do you offer for school groups?​


We cater for all learners and provide programs that focus on our permanent collection and the dialogue that exists between it and a wide range of subjects including Art, Design, History, Literature, Social Studies and STEM. Programs for Higher Education and adult groups are also available.




Can you design a customised program based on individual curriculum requirements?


Of course, if you have an area of interest you would like to explore, our educators can work with you to identify relevant connections to our collection or exhibition program, or for an agreed cost design a workshop or tour especially for your group.




How do I reschedule or cancel a confirmed appointment?


All requests to change or cancel existing appointments must be made via email to info@hellenic.org.au. Please include your name, telephone number, name of organisation, and date and time of your visit. If you need to reschedule or cancel a guided visit, we kindly ask for as much advance notice as possible so that we can assign your guide to another group.




How do we get there and when?


There are a variety of ways to get to the Hellenic Museum, which are outlined HERE. If you have a booking for a group visit, we recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled booking to give you time to cloak any bags and help organise your students into groups.




Do you have a place for buses or large vans to park at the Museum?


There is school and charter bus parking on the North Side of the Museum. There is a location map at the bottom of our website for a clearer reference.




If we schedule a guided visit for a specific time, may we arrive earlier and look around on our own?


Due to the number of groups scheduled throughout the day, we ask that you arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Your group is more than welcome to explore the rest of the Museum after your scheduled visit.




Do you have lunchroom facilities? May we eat in the Museum's hospitality offering?


Unfortunately, the Museum does not have indoor lunchroom facilities. Bag lunches can be stored while you are in the galleries, as no food or drink is permitted in gallery spaces. We encourage groups to picnic in the neighbouring Flagstaff Gardens or to purchase lunch from Grounds of Arcadia located in the Museum's private courtyard. ​




Is photography permitted?


Visitors are allowed and encouraged to take photographs (no flash please), and are free to post them on social media.
