Sensory Friendly Museum
The Hellenic Museum aims to be a welcoming place for everyone.
To assist visitors on the Autism spectrum or with other sensory needs, the Hellenic Museum offers a sensory map. This map indicates low and high sensory areas of the Museum, as well as rest points and facilities.

From time to time, the Hellenic Museum runs Sensory Sessions where multimedia features are reduced or turned off for a set period. To hear about these sessions as they are announced, follow us on social media or sign up to our newsletter.

What is a low sensory session?
A low sensory session involves the Hellenic Museum's multimedia features being turned off or minimised. This may include ambient foyer music, ambient exhibition music and video screens.

Why do you host low sensory sessions?
The Hellenic Museum aims to be a welcoming place for everyone. Low sensory sessions create a more comfortable environment for visitors on the Autism spectrum.

I would like a social script or sensory map in advance of my visit
A sensory map is available to download above. You may like to print and bring this with you for your visit; a limited number of laminated, reusable sensory maps are also available at Museum reception. We are currently developing social scripts and hope to offer these soon.

Does the Museum have a quiet area?
The Hellenic Museum does not have a designated quiet area. However, we are a small and typically quiet museum. The sensory map indicates rest points where chairs are available and, weather depending, picnic tables are also available in our forecourt.

How much does it cost? Where do I book?
You can see our admission prices here. The Hellenic Museum does not offer pre-booking – simply visit us on the day and pay upon entry. Low sensory sessions are considered a standard admission to the Hellenic Museum.

Where is the Hellenic Museum?
We are located at 280 William Street, Melbourne CBD – directly opposite Flagstaff Station. There are lots of transport and parking options nearby. For more information see Plan Your Visit.

First time visitor? We can't wait to welcome you! We have a sensory map available to assist with your visit, and are in the process of developing social scripts. You can also visit our Current Exhibitions page for an understanding of the galleries you can expect to see on your visit.
