Magic & Medicine: The Origins of Medical Knowledge

Students explore the transition from beliefs in healing magic to the development of scientific medical practices by ancient Greek physicians (doctors). Students come face to face with plants that the first physicians such as Hippocrates (the ‘Father of Medicine’), Dioscorides and Galen wrote about in their medical works, which became the foundation of Western Medicine. Students try writing a magical health incantation and make their own hand cream potion with ancient medical herbs.
