Measuring the World: Mathematical Modelling in Ancient Greece

This 2.0 Victorian Maths Curriculum-aligned workshop connects year 7 students to the ancient Greek foundations of mathematics. They will discover surprising mathematical etymologies, and learn about the context in which significant figures such as Eratosthenes, Archimedes and Euclid developed their famous theories and experiments. Students will use Hellenic Museum exhibits to demonstrate mathematical modelling, and solve problems relating to everyday life in ancient Greece involving ratio, length, area and volume.
