Event Details
Make your own traditional puppet and perform a puppet show inspired by 2500 years of Greek storytelling and theatre traditions!
This hands-on school holiday workshop will begin by exploring the stories and myths of ancient Greek theatre. Working in small groups, we'll use these myths as inspiration to write our own characters and mythical stories, which will form the basis of a puppet show!
But it's not a puppet show if we don't have any puppets – and this is where karagiozis, traditional Greek shadow puppets come in. We'll look at some of the fun, colourful examples of this modern Greek tradition, then bring our characters to life by making and decorating karagiozis of our own.
Finally, it's time for the curtain call. We'll bring our modern puppets and our ancient-inspired stories together, and each group will perform their two-minute puppet show for the parents and other groups – complete with live musical accompaniment on a lyre. Break a leg!
This workshop is ideal for young artists, storytellers, mythology fanatics and thespians aged 7–14.
All materials supplied. Ticket includes Museum general admission after the workshop.
