The Hellenic Museum invites Members and supporters to an exclusive morning preview of Divine Thresholds: Icons and the Orthodox Christ World, our latest major exhibition.
Be amongst the first to explore the exhibition and discover the history and stories behind the icons, with one hour of exclusive, private access before it opens to the public. Wander through the gallery, meet fellow patrons, and chat with the lead curator as they share insights about the exhibition. After the exclusive preview hour, Members are welcome to continue exploring at their leisure.
Free event, pre-booking required. Staff may request to see proof of Hellenic Museum Membership on arrival.
About Divine Thresholds: Icons and the Orthodox Christian World
Divine Thresholds brings together over 130 icons and sacred objects from collections across Australia to introduce audiences to one of the longest-standing and most profound visual traditions in Christianity. Icons, from the Greek eikōn (εἰκών), are two-dimensional sacred images of Christ, saints, prophets, and angels created and used for devotion and prayer. Spanning a multitude of cultures, countries and continents, these works mark a threshold between the everyday world and the divine.
Serving as a bridge between past and present, the sacred and the secular, the exhibition brings multiple perspectives into conversation. There is no single or prescribed way to experience Divine Thresholds – irrespective of believe, visitors are invited to engage with the icons and exhibition in their own way, and find something meaningful in that encounter.
