Event Details

The Hellenic Museum invites you to the launch of Reverse Archaeology: Metamorphosis of Aphrodite, the latest book by celebrated Melbourne-based artist Marco Luccio. This limited-edition, hardcover publication documents Luccio’s 2024 exhibition of the same name, inspired by the Hellenic Museum’s statue of Aphrodite. Through expressive drawings, rare behind-the-scenes insights, and innovative works such as the collaborative copper reveal, Luccio reimagines the timeless myth of Aphrodite for today.

A limited run of 366 signed and hand-numbered copies, made entirely in Australia and featuring photography by Nick Orloff, ensures this publication is both a collector’s item and a work of art in its own right. With his works held in major collections worldwide, including the New York Public Library and the National Gallery of Australia, Luccio continues to push the boundaries of printmaking and storytelling.

Celebrate this unique convergence of archaeology, mythology, and contemporary art at the Hellenic Museum, and hear directly from the artist about the making of the book. Attendees will also have the opportunity to have their copy signed by Luccio on the day.

Museum entry and refreshments are included in the ticket fee.
