Stray Gods: The Exhibition

History and mythology have inspired many a game, but few can claim to be an innovative genre.

Created by Summerfall Studios, an independent game developer based in Melbourne, the award-winning Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical (2023) is a unique and emotionally-fuelled, character-driven narrative game that celebrates music, dialogue and aesthetics.

This interactive musical sees players take on the role of Grace, the game’s protagonist, as she explores her modern urban fantasy world and meets the surviving gods of ancient Greece—all while working to prove her innocence in the murder of Calliope, the last of the Nine Muses, whose powers she has now inherited.

As Grace, the player has an abundance of choices before them as they navigate their way through this adventure—what traits to develop, who (if anyone) to romance or befriend, and how to respond in any given dialogue or musical scene. Each decision changes the trajectory of the story, resulting in a game where no two playthroughs are the same.

In Stray Gods: The Exhibition, visitors are invited to delve into this vibrant and musical world. Explore the art behind the game, listen to the Grammy-nominated music and discover its winding pathways, hear insights from the creators, and even choose your own date from the game’s romantic interests.

Stray Gods: The Exhibition is showing exclusively at the Hellenic Museum, Melbourne from Saturday 28 June. Entry is included with Museum general admission.
