Vassos Kapandais, Sculptor

Vassos Kapandais, Sculptor

This book accompanies the exhibition of the same name, which took place at the Benaki Museum Pireos Street Annexe from 8/3/2007 to 6/5/2007. The book, edited by George Hadjimichalis presents an overview of Vassos Kapantais’s oeuvre: a selection of sculptures, medals, ceramics, reliefs and drawings, as well as an index of all the sculptures which appeared in the exhibition, a detailed timeline and a bibliography concerning the sculptor’s career. The book focuses on private works by Vassos Kapantais – both large and small in size – while a special chapter refers to the highlight of his work for public spaces the sculptures placed in the Chrysostomou Smyrnis Square in Nea Smyrni. This illuminates two folds of the artist’s work: the political and the erotic. The texts being published were written by Angelos Delivorrias, Panagiotis Tetsis, Constantinos Proimos, Dennis Zacharopoulos and George Hadjimichalis.
