Each month, join the Hellenic Museum for a relaxed, phone-free, hands-on workshop inspired by Greek history, art, and culture.
Slow down and connect in person with monthly workshops led by museum staff. Explore new areas of history, engage in casual art practice and conversation whilst making new friends. Based on the ethos that you don’t have to be good at art for art to be good for you, these sessions require no experience, only enjoyment.
Analog Art Club is a statewide initiative that invites Victorians to slow down, switch off their screens and connect in real life through art. Hosted by galleries across Victoria, these phone-free events offer a welcoming space to reflect, discuss and experience art together, making creativity social, accessible and refreshingly analog. This program encourages deeper connection with both art and community by fostering genuine, screen-free engagement in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

SOLD OUT | Pinch, Coil and Build: Hand-Making Miniature Pottery

Get hands-on with history in the inaugural session of Analog Art Club at the Hellenic Museum. Participants will learn about the various types of pottery vessels in ancient Greece and practice ancient ceramic hand-building techniques by making their own small clay vessel to take home, inspired by the Museum’s collections.

Art-Making with Sherds

In archaeology, broken pieces of ancient pottery are known as sherds. Once part of a whole, these surviving fragments are still able to reveal a lot about their original vessel, and the art, history and culture of their creation. In this session, participants will select their own pieces of (modern) sherds, paint their own designs, and add a magnet or brooch clasp to create a piece of unique decorative or wearable art.

Miniature Mosaic Making

In the ancient Mediterranean, mosaics were used in both public and private spheres for decoration, commemoration, as warnings, and as a visual cultural record. Participants will create their own mosaic tile featuring one of two designs, to take home and use as a coaster or decoration, or gift to someone ahead of the festive season.
