THIS YEAR'S EVENT IS

From antiquity to today, there have been countless women artists who have left their mark on Greek history — blazing new paths and extending a hand to the generations of women to follow, building a collective artistic and cultural legacy which continues today.

In honour of these trailblazers and the formidable community of HMLS women whose support is critical to the Hellenic Museum's artistic and educational programs, this year’s event is a celebration of female artistry and empowerment.

Clio, Muse of History, capturing the passage of time on her scroll.

In support of trailblazers

Inspired by trailblazers

The face of this year's event is Clio, Muse of History. In Greek mythology, the nine Muses were sources of inspiration for the arts, science and philosophy – considered by some to be the origin of all creativity and inspiration. As the chronicler of great or heroic deeds, Clio is often depicted holding an open scroll, seated beside a chest of books, or holding the trumpet with which she heralds history's greatest events. Her name comes from the Greek kleô, to make famous.

An exclusive preview

Over lunch guests will journey from the ancient to the contemporary, with feature entertainment inspired by the mid-century opera darling and fashion icon Maria Callas. In honour of her would-be 100th birthday, the Hellenic Museum has partnered with ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) and emerging Australian opera stars to present a never-before-seen performance, which blends live opera with rare documentary footage of the starlet's colourful life. Guests of this year's Garden Party will be the first to experience a taste of this production, with an exclusive preview ahead of its Athenaeum Theatre debut the following week.

All proceeds from this event will directly support the Hellenic Museum to continue developing world-class exhibitions, programs and educational experiences, and create opportunities for arts and culture practitioners. Together we can platform artists and creative workers, and share the transformational power of Hellenic art, history and culture for generations to come.

ABOUT THE

Hellenic Museum

Ladies' Society

The Hellenic Museum Ladies' Society was established in 2018 as a place for those looking to connect over art, philanthropy, business and unique cultural experiences. HMLS presents an opportunity to network with like-minded individuals at spectacular events, while raising funds in support of Australia's only Hellenic Museum.

These crucial funds support the Museum to continue delivering its diverse programming for the benefit of the community at-large, including world-class exhibitions, artist commissions and children’s education initiatives.
